Dr Ron Ben-David

Deputy Chair, Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission; Professorial Fellow, Monash University; Principal, Solrose Consulting

 

Dr Ron Ben-David is a Deputy Chair at the Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission. He is also a Professorial Fellow with the Monash Business School (Monash University) and the principal of Solrose Consulting.

Between 2008 and 2019, Ron served as full-time chair of the Essential Services Commission of Victoria, where he led many far-reaching reforms. In 2008, heheaded the secretariat for Professor Ross Garnaut’s climate change review; which followed a decade as a senior leader in the Victorian public service – including a few years as a Deputy Secretary in the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Ron is known for his free-thinking and willingness to challenge conventional wisdom.  He writes and presents extensively on market, regulatory and governance reforms.

Ron is a board member at ClimateWorks Australia, the Consumer Policy and Research Centre and the Regulatory Policy Institute. He is an advisory board member for the Centre for Market Design at the University of Melbourne and the Monash Sustainable Development Institute, and an associate of the Monash Energy Institute.

Ron has a B.Sc (Optometry), B.Commerce (Hons) and PhD (economics) all from the University of Melbourne. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
